Okay well the good news is that the CD seemed to hav worked since just now I turned the computer on into BIOS and it now says version 3.80 but the bad news is the same initial problem seems to be there. These weird vertical white lines on the screen. I'm righ now logging into windows and see what happens

Thanks - 500 mile drive (800 km) and now back home. Yes, try Safe Mode please. These lines actually suggest graphics chip (not a good sign) or lcd panel (also not a good sign, $$-wise).

Road trips for the most part are great, with all the sightseeing you get to see.

So I tried the computer in safe mode and everything seems to funtion correctly except for these sets of 3 green lines that appears vertically on the screen.

Hey Jintan, how is everything?

I was wondering if you ever read my last post?
My laptop is still persistent with the problem.
