[QUOTE=jintan;5136] ...Your method of closing the lid is set to place the computer into hibernation, so when things aren't working right, better to disable hibernation.[quote]

ok. will make that adjustment.

...If you look through the vents in the plastic over the fan you usually can see the fan and it's blades. And so yes, use a small piece of wire or similarly very small "stick", and just put that through the vent to hold and keep the blades from spinning.
i tried the 'straw' that comes with the canned air but it is too big; does that sound right to you? i'm just wondering what i could put in to the vents that would go THROUGH but be strong enough (?) to hold the blade(s?) still.

i do have some insulated wire that we use for science experiments....

Since the canned air will spin the fan blades, but not actually have any force to it, the small piece you insert does not have to be too stout. But yes, those fan vent slots are extremely small (even smaller than unbent paper clip wire), and you will have to search around for something that you can insert there.

well... i got our 'insulated wire of science' and used that and i did 'hit' the fan, as i could hear it hit the wire and 'zing'.

prior, i was able to detect some air movement and now it is virtually nill.

seems i'm smelling 'hot' now...

was i too agressive or not agressive enough?

In looking back through this discussion, I admit I do not see a time where I mention that the laptop needed to be off when doing this, but assumed you would pick that up from how this was being presented. The purpose of the wire was to keep the fan from hyper-spinning when the air was shot into it, but because it would be initially at rest, as the laptop was not on. I fear, by your use of the word "zing", that you did have the laptop on and the fan running?

Be sure to use a powerful-enough flashlight, and check the fan blades through the vent holes. But good you don't sense any issues with it right now. The fan will also have an exhaust vent, often through the side, where you can also blow in.
