File attached for Jody. Download the attached lnk-key-fix.zip to your desktop, then "unzip" that to create an lnk-key-fix.reg file. If you do not have an unzip software like Winzip, just right click the zipped file and select -> Open With -> Compressed (zipped) Folders.

Then double-click the lnk-key-fix.reg file and allow it to "Merge" with the Registry. Reboot, and check if the shortcut .lnk file startups work correctly now.

I notice many guests check this thread, and sometimes register just to download the attached reg fix. This was originally only intended to provide one person with the file they needed, but to save folks from having to register I will just post the means of creating the fix locally on your own system.

Open Notepad (Start - Run, type notepad then press OK), and copy the text inside the box above and paste it into the open Notepad textbox.

Save this to your desktop as "lnk-key-fix.reg"

To then "merge" it with your Registry right click that "lnk-key-fix.reg" and select "Merge".

hello there...i really need help and unfortunaitly im not really good in english...
anyway here is my problem.i just bought a lap-top and there is win7 on it...so i dont know anything about it...all of my lnk has changed to unknown appication...even my nod couldent work...so I change just my antiviruse to nod and now all of them(lnk s)are nod!!!
i cant open any app unless its like autocad or 3d or..then i have to open an ex project and then open a new page...
plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help ....
and there is an error like :c:\windows\system32\computerdefaults.exe
and error on finger print and etc...

May be a file association change there that needs to be corrected. Let's check.

Download OTL from here to your desktop, then click OTL.exe to open the scan display.

Place a check in the "Scan All Users" box at the top of OTListIt, then click "Run Scan".

Once the scan completes a text box will open - copy/paste those contents back here please (this will also be saved to the desktop as OTL.txt).

Do not make any other changes in OTL before running the scan. The log from that may be large, so break it into parts and use extra posts here if needed.

wow...thanks alot for the reply...you see...when i download sth...i cant open it....cuas it asks with wich program should i open it!!!!and i dont know!!!!!!!!i cant even open start-run!!!

I moved your posts from the other thread to this one tina_kaviani. Once you have started a request thread you need to just stay with that, to avoid confusion with posting in different locations.

Check if the file associations are for all executable file types. Right click and Rename OTL.exe to any one these that will work:

OTL.scr
OTL.pif
